How do you say goodbye to friends who have been with you through the good, the bad & the ugly? Friends who are closer than family?
They moved into one of our busiest houses and went over and above our expectations. They stepped out when it went against all logic. Running towards gunshots, breaking up fights in the streets, just to protect their family on the block.
Most afternoons you would find a house full of kids watching a movie, doing homework, having a snack, or holding the Thompson baby.
Amara would talk with the teen girls, prepare their makeup for special events, take them shopping, and attend special events. The entire Thompson family made strides on the block. Bicycle rides, distributing food, Christmas baskets, what ever the neighborhood needed, they made a way.
From there they moved to the original Hazel’s House and again adopted the block. Baby showers, wedding showers, family dinners. I will have to say that block will never be the same. It was no uncommon to have knocks on the door at all hours of the day & night. They would invite them in, listen to their stories & say a prayer.
Jacob & Amara spent 5 years in the inner city, the same amount as Dan & I. They were troopers through days of plenty & days of lack. They were my dream of what interns would be. They stood beside us when all others walked away. They defended us when there should not have been a need to. Hazel’s House would not be what it is today without the Thompson family.
Their tour of duty is complete.
Matthew 25:21 KJV
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
We speak blessings, joy, and prosperity over the Thompson family as they set out for a place to call home. A place of peace & family. August 2017 they welcome their new princess. Thank you Jake, Amara, Nathan, Nyah, Norah & little one.
You made us proud!!!
